U.S. Senate hopeful David Dewhurst, among Republicans seeking his party’s nomination for the seat to be vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison, lofts two claims about Barack Obama in a web video posted by his campaign.

The video from the Texas lieutenant governor shows clips of Obama golfing and riding a golf cart along with snippets of others speaking about the nation’s economic troubles. The ad’s money moment, though, comes with these claims that appear in red letters next to video of Obama golfing: "6.4 million more Americans living in poverty under President Obama" and "over 90 rounds of golf."

We confirmed Obama’s White House golfing history; he’d played 93 rounds as of early April 2012.

Dewhurst’s poverty figures proved more problematic, partly because his message overlooks the fact that the number of Americans in poverty has been on the rise since 2007, two years before Obama was sworn in as president.
