PolitiFact is an independent fact-checking website that rates the accuracy of claims made by public officials. We launched in 2007, and won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for our analysis of the presidential election.
As you probably know, much of the talk among the presidential candidates is focusing on U.S. immigration policy. But the truth – on questions of border security, refugees, deportations, funding and policy –is often unclear.
That’s where we come in.
By our count, we’ve fact-checked 520 statements about immigration –including claims from Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, President Barack Obama and Rachel Maddow.
We want to do more. We want to hire an additional fact-checker to analyze statements made about immigration ahead of the 2016 election.
Our work is not easy. A typical fact-check takes 1-2 days to complete. That’s why adding an extra fact-checker to focus on the immigration debate is so critical.
