Help us keep the candidates honest
We need your help. We’re trying to raise $15,000 to fact-check claims about immigration made during the 2016 campaign.
Here’s the best part. If we hit our goal over the next 45 days, a group called Beacon will match your contributions dollar for dollar. With that money, we’ll hire an additional reporter to fact-check claims about immigration during the 2016 campaign.
PolitiFact is an independent fact-checking website that rates the accuracy of claims made by public officials. We launched in 2007, and won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for our analysis of the presidential election.
As you probably know, much of the talk among the presidential candidates is focusing on U.S. immigration policy. But the truth – on questions of border security, refugees, deportations, funding and policy –is often unclear.
That’s where we come in.
We want to do more. We want to hire an additional fact-checker to analyze statements made about immigration ahead of the 2016 election.
Our work is not easy. A typical fact-check takes 1-2 days to complete. That’s why adding an extra fact-checker to focus on the immigration debate is so critical.
When you pledge, you’re joining a community of people who care about holding public officials accountable. We’ll send you our fact-checks directly, and you’ll be able to claim other perks – like backers-only phone calls with PolitiFact editors and a behind-the-scenes look at how we rate immigration statements.
If we can raise $15,000 from 1,000 backers, we will hire an additional fact-checker to scrutinize the 2016 candidates. It’s as simple as that. Can you help?
