The Truth-O-Meter is on its way to Pennsylvania.

Today we announce the creation of PolitiFact Pennsylvania through a partnership with Philadelphia news website Billy Penn. Starting in a few weeks, reporters will begin analyzing the claims and promises of Pennsylania state and local politicians.

PolitiFact, which won the Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the 2008 presidential coverage, now has partners in 15 different states.

Fact-checkers already are scrutinizing the statements of politicians in Florida, Georgia, Texas, Rhode Island, California, Virginia, Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. New state fact-checking websites in Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and Ohio -- and now Pennsylvania -- are expected to launch in the coming weeks.

PolitiFact also maintains PunditFact, the fact-checking website dedicated to analyzing statements made by news media personalities.

Billy Penn is a mobile-first platform designed to connect citizens to relevant news and information about Philadelphia, and to drive civic engagement via affinity groups and events. The project — from veterans of newsrooms at the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Digital First Media, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Patriot-News, Tribune Co. and WHYY’s Newsworks — launched in October 2014. It will cover politics statewide as part of PolitiFact Pennsylania.
