PolitiFact internships FAQ

Interested in interning for PolitiFact? We have a few different avenues for internships; all follow a competitive application process. Interns work out of either Washington, D.C., or St. Petersburg, Fla. We look for college students with journalism experience, published work, a commitment to independent thinking and a willingness to work hard.

The PolitiFact summer internship: We accept one intern through a competitive process to work with us over the summer. This paid internship is administered through our home newspaper, the Tampa Bay Times. The deadline is Nov. 1 for the following summer. For more information on the application process, see the Tampa Bay Times internship program, and look for PolitiFact under "Job Descriptions."

Summer internships through the University of Chicago Institute of Politics: We accept summer interns through the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics, a program for students who attend the University of Chicago. Students should contact the institute directly for information.

Fall and spring internships through the Washington Center: We accept interns for fall or spring who already have been accepted to the Washington Center, a nonprofit institute that provides for-credit internships to students from around the country. Students first apply to the Washington Center, then apply to PolitiFact. Acceptance by PolitiFact is not guaranteed.

Fall and spring internships through American University: We accept students for unpaid internships who are earning credit at American University. Students should seek approval for an internship through their particular program and then submit a cover letter, resume and three writing samples to truthometer@politifact.com  with the subject line: PolitiFact Internship, American University.
