What have Milwaukee's mayor and county executive promised you?
We’re asking for your help as we launch promise meters that will track campaign pledges made by two Milwaukee-area politicians.
First, a little background on how our promise meters work.
Our Walk-O-Meter, which we recently updated to check the progress of three campaign pledges Gov. Scott Walker made to Wisconsin taxpayers, tracks promises Walker made while running for governor -- for his first term and his second.
As of May 2, 2016, the Republican governor has received a rating of Promise Kept for 49 percent of the promises we track. Other promises have been given ratings ranging from Compromise to Promise Broken.
The Walk-O-Meter is similar to PolitiFact National’s Obameter, which tracks campaign promises made by President Barack Obama. The second-term Democrat has a received a Promise Kept rating on 45 percent of his pledges.

We previously had an active Abele-O-Meter, which tracked promises Abele made during his 2011 campaign for a special election to replace Walker. We suspended the meter when Abele ran unopposed for a full term in 2012 and, well, did not make many promises.
But we want to restart it, given that Abele made promises while facing a challenge from state Sen. Chris Larson in winning re-election.
We haven’t had a promise meter for Barrett since we launched in 2010. Barrett had only token opposition in 2012. But in 2016, he faced more serious challenges from two sitting aldermen before winning re-election by a comfortable margin.
So, here’s what we’re asking:
Tell us about any promises you heard Abele or Barrett make during their 2016 re-election campaigns. Send them along with some details on where you heard them -- be it a TV or radio ad, a candidate forum, a campaign mailer or a news article.
If we round up enough, we will launch an Abele-O-Meter and Barrett-O-Meter.
