Jim Webb, (born  February 9, 1946), is the senior U.S. senator from Virginia. A Democrat, he also is an author and a former secretary of the Navy.   Webb is a 1968 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served as a Marine Corps infantry officer until 1972 and saw action in the Vietnam War. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, narrowly defeating Republican incumbent George Allen. Webb has announced he will not seek reelection in 2012.
