Gracey Abernethy

Gracey is a rising senior at Duke University, majoring in Public Policy with minors in journalism and media studies and economics. At Duke, she contributed to the Ninth Street Journal, covering city council meetings and housing issues in Durham, North Carolina. She was also part of a team that developed AI tools for WRAL and the Raleigh News & Observer to enhance the newsrooms and support investigative reporting teams. Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Gracey served as a summer 2025 legislative intern in the U.S. House of Representatives, where she drafted constituent correspondence and conducted a wide array of policy research. Her academic and reporting interests focus on public accountability, community-centered reporting, and analyzing the relationship between political messaging and factual impacts.
