Is Starbucks not letting people order drinks in Charlie Kirk’s name?

Some people are honoring conservative influencer Charlie Kirk by ordering his favorite Starbucks drink. However, a social media user said the coffee chain isn’t allowing customers to get orders under his name.

Kirk, 31, was assassinated Sept. 10 at a university event in Utah.

Kirk revealed his Starbucks go-to order was a mint majesty tea during the Turning Point USA conference in July. After his death, multiple people posted their own mint majesty orders in remembrance.

A Sept. 15 TikTok video shows a person entering a Starbucks located in what they say to be Yucaipa, California. The person goes to order a drink under Kirk’s name and the Starbucks employee refuses to sell it due to it being a “political” name.

Other social media users reshared the same video calling out Starbucks and saying the coffee chain has banned Kirk’s name.

We called the company to check it out. A Starbucks spokesperson said that they don’t have a policy prohibiting Kirk’s name.

The Starbucks spokesperson told PolitiFact on Sept. 16 there are no restrictions on customers using Kirk’s name for their order. The company was working to understand exactly what happened at the store mentioned in the TikTok video.

PolitiFact looked at Starbucks Code of Conduct and Standards of Business Conduct and we could not find any policy prohibiting the use of political names in stores. However, we did find that back in May, for the first time, Starbucks temporarily banned names of all the running South Korean presidential candidates.
