Perry, Cornyn, Cruz and Medicaid doctors in Texas

By W. Gardner Selby April 2, 2013

Hammering Medicaid as a broken system, Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz of Texas said the program is so crumbly, few physicians are accepting new patients with the coverage.

In a press release and at an April 1, 2013, press conference, the three said only 30 percent of Texas doctors accept new Medicaid patients.

They cited a Texas Medical Association poll we'd looked over earlier this year.

And their claim overlooked a subset of doctors who said they limit the new Medicaid patients they accept.
