Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s one-year anniversary in office arrives April 1, so we’ll be reviewing his campaign promises over the next few weeks to see how he’s dong.
Positive action toward his goals merits a "Promise Kept" or an "In the Works" rating. Lack of action could get a "Stalled" rating or even a "Promise Broken."
We recently examined some of Buckhorn’s promises on policing and crime.
In the case of one campaign pledge -- start an incentive program to encourage police to live in the city -- we found Buckhorn has come up short. No housing program has yet been announced; read more details here.
In other areas, though, Buckhorn has made positive progress. We gave him positive ratings on the following promises:
- Maintain the size of the police force
- Maintain pension benefits for police
- Support the Step Plan for police pay increases
- Continue allowing police to take their police cars home
