Direct Actions for Rights and Equality (DARE), was formed in 1986 in Providence. It says its mission is to organize low-income families in communities of color to win economic, social and political justice. It is unrelated to the national D.A.R.E. programs in which police officers teach children about the dangers of drug abuse and violence.
