First elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2002, Gresham won election to the Tennessee Senate in 2008 and represents Chester, Crockett, Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, McNairy and Wayne counties. She is from Somerville, which is about 30 miles east of Memphis, and chairs the senate's education committee.
