Major Republican hopefuls to succeed U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas have lofted charges aplenty to keep the Truth-O-Meter bouncing. The claims sometimes target the qualifications of fellow Republicans -- or criticize President Obama's performance.
This week, former ESPN analyst Craig James roused a crowd in saying that Obama seeks to negotiate a treaty banning U.S. firearms. There may be a treaty regulating the international arms trade, but there's no evidence the United States wants it to target your guns. Pants on Fire!
Meantime, a political group backing David Dewhurst for the Senate seat says GOP hopeful Tom Leppert pledged to make Dallas a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants. Leppert, the former Dallas mayor, once signed a pledge about leaving immigration enforcement to Uncle Sam, but it was no commitment to make the city a sanctuary. Mostly False.
