We're a Kickstarter staff pick.

We're excited to say we have surpassed $15,000 in pledges to fund live fact-checking and annotation of the 2015 State of the Union and GOP response. And with six days to spare!

HELP POLITIFACT FUND LIVE-FACT-CHECKING OF THE 2015 STATE OF THE UNION, GOP RESPONSE AND 2016 PRIMARIES.

Kickstarter's rules, however, don't allow us to close up shop and collect the money quite yet.

For those who haven't contributed to a Kickstarter campaign before, our campaign is required to remain active and open until the original end date. That means our Kickstarter campaign will accept contributions all the way until 7 p.m. EST Jan. 20.

That leads to a pretty obvious question: What will we do if people continue to support our journalism?

So we came up with two additional goals that will help kickstart our 2016 presidential coverage (sorry for the pun).

If we raise an additional $3,000 by Jan. 20, so at least $18,000 total, we'll send one of our fact-checkers to Iowa for a week to follow around the prospective presidential crop.

If we get to $20,000 before our Kickstarter closes, we'll send a fact-checker from our national staff to New Hampshire for a week as well. (We can't tell you when exactly because a lot depends on when the candidates will be there, but we will keep you updated through this Kickstarter campaign.)

So you still have an opportunity to invest in independent, objective fact-checking.

For those of you that already have contributed at least $10, be on the look out for an email from us at 7:15 p.m. EST. That'll be us trying to collect your individual email addresses so we can send you the annotated versions of both the State of the Union and the GOP response.

Because of the tight turnaround, we'll also likely post links to the annotated versions of both speeches as an update on the Kickstarter page -- so we know you got the chance to see it.

That's all for now. Thanks!
