PolitiFact Florida takes fact-checking to TV

The Florida Truth-O-Meter can now be seen in HD.

PolitiFact Florida today is announcing an exclusive television partnership in the Tampa Bay area with 10 News. You might have already seen our reporters and work highlighted on the CBS station.

Be ready for a lot more.

The partnership means that many of the Florida Truth-O-Meter rulings you read here will now have a video companion. It’ll be the same research, reporting and rulings -- from True to Pants on Fire -- just presented in a different way. After a PolitiFact Florida segment airs on 10 News, we’ll link the video piece to the work on this website, so you can see both versions.

With the upcoming Republican National Convention, on top of 160 state legislative elections and races for U.S. Senate and president, there couldn’t be a better time to welcome a new partner. 10 News will help us scour the hours and hours of 2012 campaign speeches and television advertisements for facts to check.

They’ll also highlight the work of the Scott-O-Meter, which is tracking the campaign promises of Gov. Rick Scott, and the Buck-O-Meter, which is tracking Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s campaign promises.

10 News also plans to share the video PolitiFact Florida segments with its two sister stations in Jacksonville -- WJXX, an ABC-affiliated station, and WTLV, an NBC-affiliated station.

PolitiFact Florida also will remain on Central Florida News 13 each Sunday morning along the I-4 corridor from Orlando to Daytona Beach.
