Texas Sen. Ted Cruz took aim at Donald Trump, including on the New York billionaire's foreign policy stance, during his Saturday speech at the California Republican Party Convention. From our initial look, Cruz missed the target a few times, but also scored some hits.

Cruz pointed out that Trump has funded some of California's top Democrats, including Gov. Jerry Brown, Attorney General Kamala Harris and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. PolitiFact California checked out that claim, and found evidence to back it up, though the contributions were made years ago to Brown, before his return as governor.

Cruz may have stretched the truth when he praised the rags-to-riches story of Carly Fiorina, who he recently selected as his running mate. PolitiFact, the national fact-checking website, has tracked Fiorina's accuracy record, too. Here's her file.  Fiorina is scheduled to speak at the convention at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, closing out the list of headlliners that included Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Friday.

Below is a look at how we covered Cruz's claims on Twitter @CAPolitiFact. Earlier, we produced a PolitiFact 'Report Card' on Cruz here, detailing his record with the truth.
