The U.S. women’s national team was eliminated from the Women’s World Cup on Aug. 6 shortly after retiring soccer star Megan Rapinoe missed a penalty kick.
But some supposed caustic game commentary from golfer John Daly that’s being shared on social media originated on a satire account.
"John Daly commented on Megan Rapinoe’s missed kick saying ‘Maybe if she was straight and started choking on something in bed, she wouldn’t have any room left to choke on the field. Her kick was as straight as her - sideways,’" reads what looks like a screenshot of a tweet from an account called Tour Golf.
A post sharing the image was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.)
The handle for the account, @PGATUOR, identifies itself as a satire account.
Daly didn’t respond to PolitiFact’s question about the post, but we found no evidence that he actually said this.
We rate claims that he did False.
